Hi, I'm Maya
I am a High School Senior based in San Diego, CA USA. I am an avid debater, I love singing and dancing, and I advocate for kids with food allergies and hearing aids. I advocate by spreading awareness through speech and debate, lobbying government officials, and writing children's books.
I started writing children's books because I wanted kids like me, who had to ask a hundred questions before eating a birthday cupcake, to feel supported and have a voice. My first series of picture books chart Mila's journey through navigating the complex world of food allergies. Mila's story is loosely based on my own. The 3 book series follows Mila as she works her through a food allergy treatment program, emerging victorious in the end.
